DENVER — Governor Jared Polis signed a proclamation today to mark Patriots’ Day and the 250th anniversary of the American Revolutionary War, honoring the service and sacrifice of the brave patriots who paved the way for our unique experiment in democracy.
“The citizens of Colorado cherish the freedoms and rights established by our nation’s founders, and Patriots’ Day serves as an opportunity to express gratitude for the blessings of liberty,” Governor Jared Polis said.
The American Revolutionary War began 250 years ago on April 19, 1775, with clashes between the Minute Men and the British Army at Lexington and Concord, where “the shot heard round the world” was the first stand in our fight for independence.
The militia which responded that day played an essential role in the founding of our United States as an independent, democratic nation and has since evolved into our National Guard. The National Guard upholds this tradition of service to our communities, state and nation by being Always Ready, Always There.
