CENTENNIAL, Colo.— The Colorado National Guard Chief of Joint Staff U.S. Army Col. Isaac Martinez, will promote to the rank of brigadier general during a formal ceremony at Denver Marriott South, Denver, Sep. 6, 2025, at 2 p.m.
U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Laura Clellan, the 44th adjutant general of Colorado and executive director of the Colorado Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, will serve as the presiding official at the ceremony.
Martinez, a Colorado native, has been appointed as the next assistant director of the Army National Guard for aviation, intelligence, and information (AV/G-2/6).
“Col. Martinez's distinguished 25-year career as a dual status military technician has been marked by selfless service, operational excellence, and an unwavering commitment to both federal and state missions,” Clellan said. “His leadership has left a lasting impact, from overseas deployments in support of Operations Joint Forge, Iraqi Freedom, and Enduring Freedom, to critical domestic responses like Columbine, 9/11 airport security, Hurricane Katrina, and state cyber emergencies.”
A ceremonial howitzer will fire 11 blank rounds, in honor of Martinez’s accomplishment.
As chief of joint staff, Martinez is responsible for managing joint operations, coordinating interagency activities, and ensuring readiness across both the Colorado Army and Air National Guard. This role provides strategic direction, oversees the development and implementation of joint plans and policies, and supports the adjutant general in achieving state and federal objectives. The chief of joint staff also facilitates collaboration between senior leaders and external partners to enhance the CONG's operational effectiveness.
“As he transitions from his current role, we also extend our sincere gratitude for his strategic vision as chief of joint staff, former Colorado Army National Guard chief of staff, and chief information officer, all of which significantly shaped the future of the Colorado National Guard,” Clellan said. “We are incredibly proud to see Colonel Martinez continue his distinguished service in this new and vital role. His promotion is well-deserved.”
Martinez has spent most of his life in Colorado. He received his undergraduate education at the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, and earned his commission in May of 1996 as a second lieutenant in the Military Police Corps. His education includes a Bachelor of Arts in criminal justice from UNC, a Master of Education and Human Resources studies from Colorado State University, Denver.
The promotion ceremony is closed to the public.
