CENTENNIAL, Colo. – Lt. Gen. Robert Glavaš, chief of defense, Slovenian Armed Forces, and members of his staff, are visiting Colorado, March 11-13, 2024.
The Slovenian delegation is meeting with members of Colorado National Guard leadership and visiting military facilities in Centennial and Colorado Springs.
The Republic of Slovenia and the CONG have been partners since 1993 as part of the National Guard State Partnership Program.
“I’ve appreciated being part of our exchange of cultures and views during my military service in the Colorado National Guard,” The Adjutant General of Colorado U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Laura Clellan said. “Through our strategic and enduring partnership, we have enhanced the readiness of our forces and our collective security.”
Over the past 30 years, there have been over 500 military-to-military and military-to-civilian engagements between Colorado and Slovenia that have facilitated valuable knowledge in various areas. Slovenia and Colorado Soldiers deployed together six times, serving side-by-side during multi-national operations and exercises. Exchanges have encompassed cultural understanding, air operations, civil engineering, civil-military cooperation, cyber defense, emergency response operations, logistics, medical support, mountain warfare, and responses to chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear incidents.
Slovenia was among the first nations to collaborate with the National Guard, laying the foundation for the SPP, which now encompasses more than 100 countries worldwide.
The SPP is a U.S. Department of Defense program that pairs National Guard units from states and territories with partner countries worldwide. The primary goal of the SPP is to foster long-term relationships and enhance international security cooperation through military-to-military and military-to-civilian engagements.
