CENTENNIAL, Colo. – The Colorado National Guard, as part of its ongoing coronavirus response mission, is assisting the state to deliver the COVID-19 vaccine to communities throughout Colorado.
CONG members are helping to implement the state’s vaccination plan by transporting the vaccine to storage locations around the state and to medical care facilities administering the vaccine that private medical couriers are unable to support.
Gov. Jared Polis recently selected U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Scott Sherman, director of the joint staff, to lead the state's Vaccine Distribution Joint Task Force in planning and executing the state's vaccination plan. The task force has members of Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment, Colorado Department of Public Safety, and the CONG. About 24 CONG members serve on the task force.
“I am extremely proud to lead the efforts of our vaccine task force that successfully received and distributed the first 46,800 doses of the Pfizer vaccine to Coloradans this week,” Sherman said. “CONG service members and state employees on this task force are working exceptionally hard to distribute the vaccine equitably and efficiently to all regions of the state and doing our part in getting our frontline healthcare workers vaccinated.”
There are 21 sites across the state that will be receiving the vaccine.
The CONG’s COVID-19 response mission is the largest and longest activation of the National Guard in state history.
