CENTENNIAL, Colo. – The Colorado National Guard will host a departure ceremony for six service members of the Colorado Army National Guard’s Army Space Support Team 18, 117th Space Battalion at 9:00 a.m. at the 117th Space Battalion Headquarters, 1775 Barger Street, Building 675, Fort Carson, CO 80913, September 7, 2025.
Army Space Support Team 18 will deploy in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve, an operation designed in response to Russian operations in Ukraine.
“We’re very excited to send our first Army Space Support Team to support an operation in the United States European Command area of operations,” said Lt. Col. Scott R. Sharkey, the commander of the battalion. “The 117th Space Battalion is the most frequently deployed space battalion in Colorado Army National Guard history. This represents a chance for us to continue that proud tradition in an entirely new area of operations.”
The team of six Soldiers will maximize space-based capabilities of U.S. and Allied operations in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve.
The 117th is aligned with the 100th Missile Defense Brigade and is based out of Colorado Springs.
