CENTENNIAL, Colo. –
The Colorado National Guard will host a departure ceremony for nearly 100 servicemembers of the Colorado Army National Guard’s 947th Engineer Vertical Construction Company at 1:00 p.m. at the Montrose Pavilion Event Center, Montrose, Colorado, May 22, 2024.
U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Bren Rogers, assistant adjutant general, Army, will be the presiding official at the ceremony.
The 947th EVCC will deploy to the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility for approximately one year as part of Task Force Spartan in support of Operation Spartan Sheild. They provide general engineering capabilities to build partner nation capabilities and deter Iranian aggression in the USCENTCOM area of responsibility.

We stand ready to mobilize in support of Operation Spartan Shield, showcasing our engineering expertise and improving facilities for our installations abroad. We are a team of professionals, and I am proud to serve alongside them, as the Soldiers of the 947th live and embody the meaning of a Citizen Soldier. We are thankful for the support of our community, employers, friends, and families, as we could not complete this difficult task without them,” said U.S. Army Capt. Evan Pitchford, 947th EVCC company commander.
OSS, an operation under CENTCOM in the Middle East, is overseen by U.S. Army Central, encompassing units from various service branches. Task Force Spartan serves as the U.S. Army component within OSS.
