CENTENNIAL, Colo. – The Adjutant General of Colorado U.S Army Maj. Gen. Laura Clellan will discuss Air National Guard space operations at the multinational space exercise Vulcan Guard during a virtual, on-the-record media roundtable Monday, April 8, 2024, 10:30-11 a.m. EST.
Clellan will be joined by The Adjutant General of Illinois U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Richard Neely, U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Samuel Keener, (Air National Guard), Director of Joint Forces Development and Training, U.S. Space Force, and two planners of Space Exercise Vulcan Guard Bolt 6.
The National Guard has performed space operations missions for nearly 30 years. In concert with the U.S. Space Force, Joint Staff and the combatant commands, National Guard Soldiers and Airmen across seven states and one territory provide the unit-equipped, surge-to-war-capability that only exists in the reserve component for the space mission. In some cases, Air National Guard members are the only ones doing specific space missions. The 233rd Space Group, an ANG space unit, operates the only survivable and endurable, mobile missile warning and nuclear detonation detection capability and is located at Greeley Air National Guard Station, Greeley, Colorado.
Nine Colorado Air National Guard members participated in VG B6 at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, March 25-29, 2024. VG is a biannual space operations event that integrates operations, intelligence, and cyber personnel from across the National Guard space states and international partners incorporating several diverse space weapons systems in a realistic threat-based scenario.
National Guard State Partnership Program partners participated in the exercise including the Republic of Slovenia, which is partnered with Colorado. Through the SPP, the National Guard has forged enduring partnerships with nations across the globe for more than 30 years while helping to build U.S. and partner capabilities to meet 21st century security challenges.
