BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE –
BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. – Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, Commander-in-Chief of the Colorado National Guard, will welcome home Aug. 4 2019, more than 300 Airmen from the 140th Wing who deployed for four months to Afghanistan in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel and the NATO’s Resolute Support mission in Afghanistan.
Colorado Airmen have been flying and maintaining F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft in cooperation with coalition partners assigned to the 455th Air Expeditionary Wing at Bagram Airfield.
“I am proud of these Colorado Air National Guard members for defending freedom,” Gov. Polis said. “Because of their hard work and sacrifices, our state, nation and world are safer today.”
Their mission was to promote efforts to strengthen Afghan security forces, including the Afghan Air Force and build partnership capacity with Afghan military members through combat air support for U.S. and coalition ground forces.
Family members and commanders will be present to welcome National Guard members back from this deployment.
