Black Forest Fire
Colorado National Guard
June 14, 2013 | 1:10
VOSOT of Colorado National Guard Firefighters conducting fire prevention and control operations in Black Forest, Colorado, Produced by SSG Joe Labutka.
Script:
Lead: AS THE WILD FIRES IN BLACK FOREST, COLORADO CONTINUE TO THREATEN HUNDREDS OF HOMES, THE COLORADO NATIONAL GUARD ONCE AGAIN DEPLOYED SOLDIERS IN SUPPORT OF THEIR HOME STATE.
Take Video: COLORADO'S JOINT ARMY AND AIR GUARD SUPPORTED THE COMMAND OPERATIONS AND FIGHTING OF THE MASSIVE FIRE NEAR COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO. MANY OF THE TROOPS WERE ON THE FRONT LINES PROTECTING THE NUMEROUS HOMES IN THE PATH OF THE FIRE. AS A FULL TIME FIRE FIGHTER IN HIS CIVILIAN CAREER, CHEIF WARRANT OFFICER JOHN BUCHANA KNOWS THE IMPORTANCE OF HIS SOLDIERS PRESENCE IN THE MIDST OF THE DISASTER.
Soundbite, CW2 John Buchana, 1157th Engineer Detachment, Firefighters: " My soldiers are fully cognizant of the fact that when we are deployed for a state of emergency there are citizens of colorado that are in great distress and are going through tremendous adversity. And so for us our sacrifices are minimal. As victims of these events, their burdens are far greater than ours and we're truly proud that we are able to be out here and assist them."
