CENTENNIAL, Colo. – The Adjutant General of Colorado U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Robert Davis will host Department of Military and Veterans Affairs civilians, Colorado National Guard leaders, and community and state partners at a 9/11 Memorial dedication ceremony at Joint Force Headquarters – Colorado, 6848 S. Revere Pkwy, Centennial, CO 80016, at 3 p.m. Sept. 11, 2026.
The ceremony will dedicate the newly constructed memorial built from steel recovered from the World Trade Center to honor the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001, as well as the service members who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Global War on Terror.
“This sacred piece of history stands as a permanent tribute to the innocent lives lost in the unprovoked attack and the enduring spirit of resilience that followed,” Davis said. “As we gather to honor the profound legacy of our service members who answered the call to duty and remember the sacrifices made by their families, let us come together to remember and honor the fallen and strengthen our promise to never forget.”
In April 2026, the Counterterrorism Education Learning Lab donated the 36-foot long, 6,000-pound piece of steel salvaged from the WTC for installation at the JFHQ-CO complex. A concrete stand will be constructed next to the memorial to hold a commemorative metal plaque.
The installation proved to be extremely challenging due to the irregular condition of the existing steel and the acute angles required.
The memorial was designed by See Jia Ho, American Institute of Architects, Colorado Department of Military Veterans Affairs, who is the architect and project manager. The construction effort was a tight collaboration between the DMVA, Colorado National Guard (G9) Installations and Environment Branch, and contracts awarded to Bristlecone Construction, Metalworker, Mile High Metal Works, and KL&A Engineers, together with AEC-West as Special Inspector, to ensure that the installation is safe and will stand for decades to come.
