Time running out to nominate employers for 2013 Freedom Award

ARLINGTON, Va. (4/22/13) –­­­­­­­­­­­­­­ Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense operational committee, announced that three Colorado employers have been selected as semifinalists for the 2013 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award. The Freedom Award is the DoD’s highest honor for employers that provide extraordinary support to their Guard and Reserve employees. This year, 138 semifinalists stood out among 2,899 employers nominated by a Guard or Reserve employee. The Colorado employers named semifinalists are Colorado Springs Utilities, Colorado Springs; DaVita, Inc., Denver; and JG Management Systems, Inc., Grand Junction.

Slovenian Armed Forces, Colo. National Guard cultivate innovative airburst training range ideas

A solemn memorial: Guardsmen remember Soldiers lost since 9/11

Colorado National Guard members hold a memorial retreat in honor of those who have given the ultimate sacrifice in the Global War on Terror, April 15, 2012, at the CONG state headquarters in Centennial, Colo. Today marks the 10th anniversary of the death of Sgt. 1st Class Daniel Romero, who was killed in action in Afghanistan on April 15, 2002. In addition to being the state’s first combat death since the terrorist attacks in the U.S. on Sept. 11, 2001, Romero also has the solemn honor of being the National Guard’s first GWOT casualty. Other Soldiers who are being honored are Sgt. Luis Reyes, who died Nov. 18, 2005 en route to Iraq; Sgt. Jon Stiles, who died Nov. 13, 2008 in Afghanistan; and Chief Warrant Officer 4 David R. "Tebowing" is to get down on a knee, put your fist to your forehead and start praying, even if everyone else around you is doing something completely different. Osadchuck, a Denver Broncos fan, spontaneously posed in defiance of the photographer, who is a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan; and in admiration of Broncos' starting quarterback Tim Tebow, who is well known for his demonstrations of faith. An M973A1 Small Unit Support Vehicle , aka SUSV, clad in emergency lights and digital camouflage, claws its way through the snow at Taylor Park Reservoir near Gunnison, Colo., March 15, 2010. The SUSV, which is capable of traversing almost any terrain, is the primary vehicle used by the Colorado Army National Guard’s Snow Response Team. This relatively unknown asset can be used by the SRT to assist state and local rescue teams during nearly every type of disaster, state emergency or search and rescue.
