CENTENNIAL, Colo.— The Colorado National Guard welcomed U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Jared Hiles as senior enlisted leader for the director of joint staff, May 1, 2026, at an assumption of responsibility ceremony at Joint Force Headquarters, Centennial, Colorado.

In this role, Hiles is responsible for execution and development of operational plans, conduct of training, and success of statewide integration efforts in domestic and operational mission execution in support of the State of Colorado.

"I am honored to appoint Chief Master Sgt. Jared Hiles as our new senior enlisted leader,” said Director of Joint Staff U.S. Army Brig. Gen. William DiProfio.  “His unique joint-service background and proven operational and emergency management leadership make him uniquely qualified to guide our enlisted force. He is the right leader to enhance our readiness in support of Colorado and the nation."

Hiles enlisted in the U.S. Army in September 2000 as a Chemical Operations Specialist. He served in the California National Guard and the Nevada Air National Guard before transferring to the Colorado Air National Guard in 2011 where he served as the readiness and emergency management superintendent and was called to State Active Duty in 2013 to support the Colorado floods response.

Throughout his military career, Hiles has been called upon to support multiple wings with Operational Readiness Exercises, vertical inspections, and large-scale readiness exercises. For five years, he augmented the Air Mobility Command Inspector General team.

In 2016, he was selected as the Program Lead for Emergency Responder Requirements at the National Guard Bureau's A5 Plans and Requirements Directorate, Joint Base Andrews, Maryland. While on this Active Duty tour, he demonstrated exceptional adaptability by assuming responsibility for the Infrastructure Element, requiring him to cross-train into Civil Engineer Operations Management.

He also served as the facility manager for the 140th Wing at Buckley Space Force Base, Aurora, Colorado.

During his most recent deployment in 2025, Hiles was the senior enlisted leader for the Pacific Air Force Regional Planning Team in Australia, as part of the first enduring U.S. forces in the country since World War II.

In his last assignment, he served as the senior enlisted leader for the 240th Civil Engineer Staff Augmentation team.

In his civilian capacity, he is the regional continuity manager for FEMA Region 8 in Denver, focusing on Continuity of Operations, Mission Assurance, and Continuity of Government.

For more than 165 years, the men and women of the CONG have served our nation in wartime and as the first military responders in support of civil authorities during state emergencies. The CONG’s 5,500 Citizen-Soldiers and Citizen-Airmen are Always Ready, Always There.
