The Colorado National Guard Foundation

The Colorado National Guard Foundation was established as a result of the Gulf War in 1991. Many Guard members experienced financial hardship due to their deployment.  Today, the Foundation assists soldiers and airmen who are experiencing financial hardship and need assistance to pay their rent or utilities.

The Foundation awards interest-free loans and grants to soldiers and airmen who are in need of emergency financial assistance.  This can be for medical emergencies; line-of-duty injuries in which incapacitation pay is not made to the military member in a timely manner; pay and allowances for Guard duty are late or a disaster such as a home burning down all qualify as emergencies.

Donation check to CONG FoundationAll requests for grants or loans are taken on a case-by-case basis.  The Foundation Board is comprised of officers, NCOs and government civilian employees who administer the rules and regulations of running the Foundation. The Foundation has an Emergency Relief Committee that is comprised of officers, NCOs and government civilian employees. These individuals look at all loan and grant requests. Three members of the Emergency Relief Board must come to a consensus on whether a soldier or an airman is eligible for a loan or grant. Loans and grants are NOT an entitlement. Soldiers and Airmen are applying for an interest-free LOAN. There are criteria that must be met by the military member to qualify for the loan.

If you are a member of the Colorado Army or Air National Guard and are in need of an emergency loan fill out the application located below and submit it to start the application process.  Once received the application will be processed and your case presented to the Foundation committee for review. Include copies of your bills (debts) with your application. Please be aware that the Foundation DOES NOT make car payments.  If a loan is granted please understand this is an interest-free loan and it DOES need to be PAID BACK.

The Military Family Relief Fund is for Colorado Servicemembers who pay Colorado Income taxes (this is not solely for the Colorado National Guard). This fund was established based off donations by Colorado taxpayers who every year have checked off on their state taxes to make a donation to this fund.

The Military Family Relief Fund assists Colorado military families impacted by mobilization, including National Guard members and reservists deployed as a result of mobilizations since 9/11. It also provides financial assistance for active duty military members deployed to hostile fire zones.

Not only does the fund make up loss in salary, but families may also qualify for help defraying increased expenses for food, housing, utilities, medical service, and other expenses incurred when a family member leaves civilian employment.

State Representative Morgan Carroll, who co-sponsored the bill that established the fund, said, “It isn’t right that our brave men and women who have been called to serve our country should have their families’ financials negatively impacted … It is just one way we can show our military members how much we appreciate their commitment.”
