CENTENNIAL, Colo. (4/23/13) – The Colorado Army National Guard will host a departure ceremony for Commercial Imagery Team 4, 117th Space Battalion, at the Colorado National Guard state headquarters April 24 at 2 p.m.
CIT 4 will provide space-based products and support to units in the U.S. Central Command area of operations to include satellite imagery, missile warning systems, satellite communications, space-based weather and GPS capabilities.
Commercial Imagery Teams are small, highly specialized, and specifically trained teams who support military operations by acquiring, processing, and distributing commercial satellite imagery for the U.S. military, other government and non-government agencies, and coalition partners. Members also provide training in imagery processing techniques to support operational missions.
“The Soldiers of CIT 4 provide unique skills and products to help the warfighters do their job as well prepared and as safely as possible," said Maj. Gen. H. Michael Edwards, adjutant general of Colorado. “They are trained and prepared to conduct their mission. I have complete confidence they will do well and make a difference."
The seven Soldiers of CIT 4 will deploy for approximately one year.
The unit completed several weeks of theater-specific pre-mobilization training in preparation for this deployment.
The 117th Space Battalion, the only Army National Guard Space Battalion, falls under Army 1st Space Brigade for training, readiness and oversight.
For Assignment Editors: News media representatives interested in covering the deployment ceremony should arrive no later than 1:45 p.m. at the south gate of Joint Force Headquarters, 6848 S. Revere Pkwy., Centennial, Colo. 80112.
