Army National Guard 1st Lt. James Goff
CENTENNIAL, Colo. (4/5/13) – Sixteen elite Noncommissioned Officers and Soldiers will compete over the course of three days at the Region VII Army National Guard Best Warrior Competition April 4-6 at Fort Carson, Colo.
This regional event includes the best NCO and Soldier from Guam, Hawaii, California, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Arizona and Nevada.
The competition tests endurance, mental toughness and resolve. The events are kept undisclosed until the NCOs and Soldiers begin the competition.
“The Colorado Army National Guard is very excited to host - for the first time - the Region VII Best Warrior Competition.” said Command Sgt. Maj. Kenneth Berube, Colorado Army National Guard state command sergeant major. “We have planned a professionally-led, tough and realistic event that will provide valuable training to all competitors, sponsors and support Soldiers alike.”
The winners of this event will go on to compete at the Army National Guard Best Warrior Competition and if they win their respective category, then on to the Army Best Warrior Competition.
Each competitor is accompanied by a Sponsor, who has invested their time and encouragement assisting their competitor in preparation.
This year's Region VII Best Warrior Competition is dedicated to the fallen Soldiers from this Region.

Media is invited to witness the mystery event on Saturday, April 6 from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Media must check in at Fort Carson Gate 1 no later than 10:45 a.m. Saturday, April 6 for escort directly to the event site.
Directions for Media to Gate 1: (from Denver)
o Take I-25 South from Denver to Colorado Springs.
o Take Exit 140 on to Highway 115/Nevada Ave.
o Drive approximately 5 miles south on Highway 115 to the Gate 1 entrance to Fort Carson.
o Gate 1 is the second entrance to Fort Carson as you travel south on Highway 115.
o Soldiers will greet you there to provide escort and any additional instructions.
