CENTENNIAL, Colo. (03/19/13) – Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper, commander-in-chief Colorado National Guard, will host the 2013 Easter Egg Roll for the family members of deployed Colorado National Guard members March 20.
Festivities for the approximately 90 children and spouses will begin at 1:30 p.m. at Boettcher Mansion, located at 400 E. 8th Ave., Denver.
The Colorado National Guard has nearly 200 Soldiers and Airmen separated from their families, while deployed in support of overseas contingency operations.
“It will be an honor to host -- at the Governor’s Mansion -- families who sacrifice at home so their loved ones can serve overseas,” Hickenlooper said. “Families of Colorado National Guard members should be recognized for supporting the commitment and resolve of their service members. We are pleased to host an event this like, which can help show these families our great appreciation.”
Maj. Gen. H. Michael Edward, the Adjutant General of Colorado, Mrs. Edwards, and the Easter Bunny will take part in a variety of games with the children including an egg roll and egg hunt.
“Gatherings like this help motivate the children who miss their deployed parent. This also provides the parent, who’s left with all the care-giving responsibilities, a way to celebrate with their children with little added effort to them,” said Maj. Gen. Edwards. “Our National Guard families are the unsung heroes of military deployments.”
Other CONG senior leaders will also attend to show their support for the children and their families.
