Air National Guard Capt. Kinder Blacke
CORTEZ, Colo. (7/17/12) – The 140th Medical Group, part of the Colorado Air National Guard, will be holding a health promotion fair called Operation CoCare in conjunction with the Tri-Ute games July 24-28 at the Ute Mountain and Southern Ute Community Centers.
Air National Guard medical professionals will perform screenings for diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, and weight issues, as well as provide dental consultations and sports physicals. The health fair will also feature an interactive area where children can learn simple first aid, try out some medical equipment, and learn about what medical professionals do in the military.
“We are very honored to have the privilege to come and provide support for the Tri-Ute games, and hold a health fair for the local residents,” said Maj. James Chappell, a physician specializing in diabetes care with the 140th Medical Group.
Doctor Chappell will be giving a lecture on diabetes and prevention in addition to working with doctors from the reservation to help troubleshoot and plan treatment for individuals with difficult to control diabetes.
Operation CoCare will be in Towaoc July 24 from 9 a.m. to noon, July 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and July 26 from 9 a.m. to noon. It will be in Ignacio July 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and July 28 from 9 a.m. to noon. All services are free of charge.
