Army Band to honor Armed Forces Day with free public concert

CENTENNIAL, Colo. (5/17/12) – The Colorado National Guard will host a free concert featuring the Colorado Army National Guard’s 101st Army Band Sunday, May 20 at 2 p.m. at the Aurora Central High School in Aurora, Colo. 

The special tribute concert will feature a patriotic selection of music to be performed by the 101st Army Band's concert ensemble and will honor the nation’s service members of all branches.  

It is free to the public, however tickets are required as seating is limited. 

First-come-first-serve tickets are available at:

  1. Aurora History Museum, 15051 E. Alameda Ave.
  2. Aurora Central, Martin Luther King Jr., Mission Viejo and Tallyn’s Reach libraries
  3. Buckley Air Force Base Outdoor Recreation Office
  4. Barns & Noble at the Aurora City Center
  5. 100 walk-in tickets will be available on the day of the concert at the auditorium door 

A special presentation will also be given by retired Maj. Gen. Mason C. Whitney, former commander of the Colorado National Guard.  

The 101st Army Band was formed in 1937 and consists of 40 Citizen-Soldiers of the Colorado Army National Guard whose mission is to be musical ambassadors and representatives for the citizens, veterans, and service members of Colorado. The Band provides music to support civil-military operations, coalition operations, recruiting operations, and national and international community relations.  

“The bottom line is we are doing this to thank Colorado citizens for their outstanding support and to honor those who have served past and present,” said Army Staff Sgt. James Stewart, 101st Army Band Readiness Non-commissioned Officer. “We strive to provide the highest quality musical support possible to the Colorado National Guard and the citizens of the state of Colorado.”
