CENTENNIAL, Colo. (11/10/11) – The Colorado National Guard will be seen and heard in both the air and on the ground at patriotic events across the region tomorrow and Sunday in honor of our nations veterans.

“Though much is said about bringing our troops home, for many of our patriots – past and present – the war wages on,” said Colorado Adjutant General Maj. Gen. H. Michael. “We recognize all those who have served, those who have given their lives, and those who still shoulder the burden of maintaining our nation’s freedoms.”

In honor of these men and women, the 101st Army Band of the Colorado Army National guard will perform a free concert Nov. 13 at Ralston Valley High School in Arvada, Colo. The concert is open to the public.

The 140th Wing of the Colorado Air National Guard will also perform numerous flyovers. The unit continues to guard our skies 24/7/365 from the only centrally-located alert fighter facility in the nation: Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora, Colo.

“The Colorado Air National Guard F-16 Fighting Falcons and crews providing the flyovers are the same that took off minutes after the tragic attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, and flew as the only aircraft in the skies to protect us from further attacks,” said Air Force Capt. Darin Overstreet, Colorado National Guard Deputy Public Affairs Officer.

During the 10 years since, Colorado National Guard Citizen-Soldiers and Citizen-Airmen have deployed more than 6,000 times while maintaining state emergency response capabilities and supporting homeland defense missions.
