CENTENNIAL, Colo. (10/26/11) – The Colorado Army National Guard will break ground on a new readiness center in Windsor, Colo., Oct. 27 at 4 p.m.

Colorado National Guard senior leaders and civic leaders are scheduled to speak.

Construction began in September and is scheduled to be completed in September 2012.  At any time, 130 tradespeople will work at the construction site. In total, approximately 435 personnel will be involved in the construction of this facility.

The architect for this project is RB+B Architects, Inc. from Fort Collins, Colo., and the general contractor is Adolfson & Peterson Construction from Aurora, Colo.

The new 17-acre facility will be the new home of the approximately 130 Soldiers in the 1157th Forward Support Company of the 1st Battalion, 157th Infantry Regiment.

The 1st Battalion, 157th Infantry, is the new light infantry unit of the Colorado Army National Guard.   At full strength, this battalion will have more than 800 community-based Citizen-Soldiers in six companies, bringing new jobs to Colorado. New readiness centers have been or are being built in communities across Colorado including Alamosa, Fort Lupton, Grand Junction, Colorado Springs, and Windsor.

“The addition of the readiness centers and the infantry battalion increases the value of the Guard to the community and enhances our ability to assist in a time of need,” said Maj. Gen. H. Michael Edwards, the Adjutant General of Colorado.

Scope of the project includes a 30,715-square-foot facility with an assembly hall, maintenance training work bay, classrooms, kitchen, recruiting office, family support office, supply storage, locker areas and administrative offices.

The Colorado National Guard takes pride in its facilities blending into the communities in which its units are based. The project will be constructed to achieve at least a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Silver rating, fully certified through the U.S. Green Building Council.

The Colorado Army National Guard is pleased to extend the use of the new Windsor Readiness Center to the community and is excited about the development and enhancement of community partnerships the new Readiness Center will be able to facilitate.

The Colorado National Guard has provided venues for comments regarding the facility layout, design, and other significant features of this facility.

News media representatives are encouraged to cover the groundbreaking. Remarks by Colorado National Guard and community leaders will begin at 4:00 p.m. at 31725 Great Western Drive, Windsor, Colo., 80550. A reception with light refreshments will follow.
