CENTENNIAL, Colo. (8/9/11) – The Colorado National Guard will hold a media opportunity today at 3 p.m. to update the media regarding the tragic loss of a Soldier.

The media opportunity will be held at the hilltop pavilion at Lookout Park at the intersection of South Riviera Way and South Picadilly Street in the Arapahoe Park and Recreation District.

Army Chief Warrant Officer 4 David R. Carter, 47, the co-pilot of a CH-47 Chinook, is believed to have died Aug. 6 in Afghanistan. Positive identification has not yet been made.

Among those scheduled to speak at the conference today include:

Maj. Gen. H. Michael Edwards, the Adjutant General of Colorado
Brig. Gen. Bob Balster, Chief Administrative Officer, Colorado Army National Guard
Col. Chris Petty, Commander, Army Aviation Support Facility, Colorado Army National Guard
Neighbor, acting spokesperson for the Carter family

The specific details of the crash are pending the conclusion of an investigation.  

“This is a tremendous loss to the Colorado National Guard family,” said Maj. Gen. H. Michael Edwards, the Adjutant General of Colorado. “This tragedy is not only felt by our fellow Guard members, but our community, state and nation. We will do everything we can to assist the Carter family during this difficult time.”

Details regarding memorial services are unknown at this time.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers or other expressions of sympathy, contributions be made to a college fund established for Kyle and Kaitlen in memory of their father. Contributions can be made at any 1ST Bank location in the name of “Dave Carter Memorial Fund.”
