CENTENNIAL, Colo. (5/24/11) – The National Guard Association of the United States released the results of their annual competition May 18.
Receiving two of the eight awards is the 140th Wing of the Colorado Air National Guard, Buckley Air Force Base, Colo.
Named for Maj. Gen. Winston P. Wilson, former Chief of the National Guard Bureau, this trophy is presented to the most outstanding Air National Guard unit equipped with jet fighter or reconnaissance aircraft.
The NGAUS Distinguished Flying Unit Plaque, awarded to the 140th Wing, is presented to five outstanding Air National Guard flying units (Wings).
The 120th Fighter Squadron, of the 140th Wing, was recognized with the Winston P. Wilson award for distinguishing itself throughout calendar year 2010. It performed impeccably in all its endeavors. During this reporting period the squadron was actively involved in two overseas deployments, two major higher headquarter inspections, two major infrastructure upgrades and a 24/7 alert commitment. This was accomplished while actively preparing for overseas contingency operations in support of CENTCOM, SOUTHCOM, and PACOM theater objectives, all done with an outstanding flying safety record. “Both of these awards are testimony to the hard work and dedication of Colorado’s Citizen-Airmen. My congratulations and appreciations go to all as we forge a continued legacy of superior performance. I couldn't be more proud to serve with such exceptional Americans,” said Eyre.
Both awards will be presented to the unit Aug. 29 at the NGAUS conference in Milwaukee.
