CENTENNIAL, Colo. (5/9/11) – The Colorado National Guard, dignitaries and Soldiers' families will soon celebrate the return of Company G, 2nd Battalion, 135th General Support Aviation from Iraq.

A redeployment ceremony will be held at the Army National Guard Aviation Support Facility on Buckley Air Force Base tomorrow at 2 p.m.

The Colorado Army National Guard Soldiers are returning from a year-long deployment, during which they provided around-the-clock medevac capabilities for US and coalition forces within United States Division South, which encompasses the southern half of Iraq.

While in country, the unit flew more than 900 missions for a total of nearly 2,250 flight hours, all while maintaining the best medevac launch time Iraq-wide for the duration of the deployment.

"I look forward to welcoming the Soldiers home and seeing them reunited with their families," said Brig. Gen. Dana M. Capozzella, commander of the Colorado Army National Guard.  "They are coming home with their heads held high."

The Citizen-Soldiers of Company G come from communities all over Colorado. Many members who volunteered for this deployment previously served in the Gulf War and, more recently, in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

During the 10 years since the tragic attacks of 9/11, the Colorado National Guard has manned more than 6,000 deployments while maintaining statewide response capabilities and supporting 24/7 missions safeguarding the citizens of Colorado. Our hats are off to all who give of themselves to support this great nation.

Note to editors: Media interested in attending must confirm with 1st Lt. Anthony Norris at 303-478-0177.  In order to enter Buckley Air Force Base, media must enter at the Mississippi Avenue gate (just east of the Tower Road and Mississippi Avenue intersection) NO LATER THAN 1 p.m. and go through the commercial vehicle inspection area.  Media representatives will be required to provide their drivers' licenses, vehicle registration and proof of insurance.
