CENTENNIAL, Colo. (7/8/10) – The Colorado Army National Guard's 3rd Battalion, 157th Field Artillery will hold its second and final Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Retreat this weekend at Beaver Run Resort and Conference Center in Breckenridge, Colo.
The retreat will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday and 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Sunday.
The Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Retreat Program is a Department of Defense initiative designed to provide support and outreach to servicemembers recently returning from deployments lasting more than 90 days. The two-day seminar provides servicemembers and their families useful information and activities designed to help reintegrate combat veterans into their families and civilian lives.
"Ensuring that our Soldiers returning from combat get the support they need is near and dear to my heart," said Maj. Gen. H. Michael Edwards, the adjutant general of Colorado and commander of the Colorado National Guard.
"The Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Program is an integral part of that support.
They do an excellent job helping our Guard members understand and cope with the changes they go through as they get back to their normal lives - reintegrating with their families and employers, and the society that we defend."
During the retreat, children of deployed members will participate in teambuilding and reintegration activities while adults learn about the needs of returning members and loved ones. Briefing topics will include everything from TRICARE to post-traumatic stress disorder, anger management and interpersonal communication. In addition, private counseling sessions are conducted by Department of Veterans Affairs personnel, who will provide servicemembers, spouses and parents an opportunity to discuss their deployment experiences and reintegration concerns in a comfortable setting.
Media are invited to attend and encouraged to participate in the weekend's events to better understand the challenges returning servicemembers face, as well as the steps the military has taken to ensure our members properly reintegrate with their families and employers.
For more than 150 years the Colorado National Guard has served communities across Colorado while defending our nation. The Citizen-Soldiers and -Airmen of the Colorado National Guard are always ready, always there.
For Assignment Editors: Media interested in covering the retreat are welcome throughout the entire event, but the best times are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 Sunday. The Beaver Run Resort and Conference Center is located at 620 Village Road, Breckenridge, Colo., 80424. Media must confirm attendance with Capt. Michael Odgers, (720) 785-3860.
