On June 28, 1937, hundreds of Colorado Army National Guard troops were activated to transport and spread a mix of poison, sawdust and bran in order to temper a region-wide grasshopper infestation.

The method proved triumphant after many other methods, including dynamite, fire pits and train-borne flamethrowers, were unsuccessful.
