The Soldiers of Aviation (General Support Aviation Battalion) are the pilots and support crews of the Army National Guard. The Colorado Guard often relies on the expertise of Aviation for emergencies and special missions that cannot be handled with ground elements. It is the job of the men and women of the aviation field to ensure the UH-60 "Blackhawks" , CH-47 "Chinooks" and OH-58 "Kiowas" are always ready and can handle anything asked of them.
Common missions for Aviation include interacting with the DEA to spot marijuana fields, Special Forces transportation support (including Air Assaults and static line parachute drops), support during state emergencies such as floods, blizzards and brush fires, and, of course, troop movements.
The pilots of Army Aviation are supported by highly trained crew members. Positions in Aviation support include Operations Specialist, Avionics Mechanic, Aircraft Structure Repairer, Helicopter Repairer, and Avionics Communication Equipment Repairer. Colorado Army National Guard Aviation is located at Buckley Air Force base in Aurora. For more information call 720-847-8479.
