AURORA, Colo. (7/29/11) – The Colorado National Guard’s 8th Civil Support Team (Weapons of Mass Destruction) held a change of command ceremony for its members July 29, during which Army Lt. Col. Kevin Kick handed over command of the unit to Army Lt. Col. Kevin Black on Buckley Air Force Base here.
The CST was formed in 1998 but the team and its mission didn’t come to the forefront until the tragic events of 9/11. The 8th CST is the governor’s WMD response team and stands ready to assist Colorado in the event of a natural or manmade disaster in which chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear materials pose a threat to the safety of Colorado citizens.
Black is a graduate of Aurora Central High School in Aurora, Colo., and was commissioned through the Reserve Officer Training Corps. He has served in more than a dozen countries and held various commands throughout his military career. Black was joined at the ceremony by his wife Amanda, daughter Kindle and son Caden.
