As chaplains, we’re frequently called upon to perform or provide religious support for the Soldiers and Airmen of the Colorado National Guard. Many of these duties, such as funerals, death notifications, grief counseling and crises support, are sacred but difficult. While we receive years of training and seasoning in the civilian world, confirming this call to ministry, we still understand the pain our service members are experiencing and share their heavy hearts. We’re called to this duty for God and country and are honored to be there in a time of need for our Soldiers and Airmen.

Recently, I received an e-mail request for a duty of a different kind. Sgt. Adam Foisy of the 220th Military Police Company, and his wife Sarah, were preparing for Adam’s upcoming deployment with the Colorado Army National Guard’s second Operational Mentorship and Liaison Team, in partnership with our friends in the Slovenian military. Adam will be working as part of a select team to help train our Slovenian allies before jointly deploying with this group to continue our efforts to combat terrorism in Afghanistan. The Foisy family wanted to dedicate/christen their little 7-month-old baby, Noah Axel Foisy, to the Lord before Adam left to serve our nation.

This was a very happy and special occasion as I prayed to bless and dedicate this little boy to God’s keeping and service. Many friends and members of the Foisy family were able to attend to witness this special ceremony at the Buckley Air Force Base Chapel. May God continue to watch over all of our precious families in the Colorado National Guard!
