Justin Skogland (second from left), a project manager with the Colorado Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, speaks to Colorado National Guard leaders about the construction of the COARNG's newest readiness center in Fort Lupton, Colo., Aug. 18, 2010. The 35,000-square-foot facility, which is scheduled to be complete in spring 2011, will be the home for Company B, 1st Battalion, 157th Infantry. The 1-157th is the Colorado Army National Guard's newest unit. Maj. Gen. H. Michael Edwards, the adjutant general of Colorado, and his staff, are conducting their annual tour of Colorado Army National Guard facilities across Colorado Aug. 16-20, 2010. Edwards and his staff conduct these tours to not only engage their Guardsmen and asses the condition of their training facilities, but as important, they engage local and state legislators, city and county officials, community leaders and others about the COARNG's role in that area of the state. This interaction may include, but is not limited to: what the COARNG and communities see as the role of the Guard being in that locale, and what the COARNG has been doing and how it can expand its role to continue to support local needs. On Aug. 18, 2010, several legislators also toured sites in Denver, Fort Lupton, Firestone and Fort Collins, where they learned about the COARNG's numerous state and federal missions, and about the activities Soldiers conduct that support their own communities.
