Grand Junction, Colo. — The next quarterly veterans' memorial service will be held October 2, 2017, at 1:00 PM in the committal shelter at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado, 2830 Riverside Parkway, Grand Junction, Colo., 81501.
During the service, the Grand Valley Combined Honor Guard, along with Team III COARNG Honor Guard, will perform military honors as a tribute and final salute in memory of all veterans who had no military honors during their committal for the preceding months of July, August and September, 2017.
Local veterans from all branches of service comprise the Grand Valley Combined Honor Guard. The program will also include members of the Patriot Guard Riders, a dove release by Paul and Nancy Adams' Love Doves, pipers from the Rocky Mountain Scots, the tolling of the Veterans Memorial Bell, and the firing of Shady Taylors' cannon, "Shady's Lady," along with a cannon shot from the Cemetery's Memorial cannon.
"Through this ceremony, our community pays fitting tribute to our unsung Colorado warriors who defended freedom," the Adjutant General of Colorado U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Mike Loh said. "The rendering of military honors means that their service is remembered and celebrated."
The ceremony is open to the public.
