​The Colorado National Guard sends off members of Special Operations Detachment-Korea (Airborne) for a deployment with a departure ceremony February 21, 2014, at the Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum in Denver. SOD-K conducts special operations in support of U.S. Special Operations Command. The unit provides staff augmentation to Special Operations Command in respective staff sections. The unit's official federal recognition was on May 26, 2004. SOD-K personnel received numerous awards during previous mobilizations including the Purple Heart for the two unit members wounded in a rocket attack June 25, 2004. Army National Guard Staff Sgt. Joseph VonNida, 720-250-1053

CENTENNIAL, Colo. – Family and friends will welcome home a Colorado Army National Guard Task Force of about 50 Soldiers from the 5th Battalion, 19th Special Forces Group (Airborne) Feb. 16.

The unit just returned from a six-month deployment supporting the Gulf Coalition Council Joint Special Operations Task Force - Arabian Peninsula.

"All of the Soldiers performed in an outstanding manner, admirably representing Colorado, the Colorado Army National Guard, and the 19th Group," Battalion Commander U.S. Army Lt. Col. Wiedenbeck said. "The 5th Battalion command team would like to thank the family members and loved ones for their support to enable them to serve the Partner Nations in this area. The CONG made a significant impact on operations in the area of responsibility but are very glad to be home."

"We're truly thankful for these Citizen-Soldiers' dedication and sacrifices in support of the warfight," The Adjutant General of Colorado U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. H. Michael Edwards said.  "I also want to thank the communities which stood by them and their families during this deployment."

The ceremony will occur at the Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum, 7711 East Academy Boulevard, Denver, at 3 p.m.

CONG senior leaders will attend.

The 5-19th also deployed to Afghanistan in 2002, 2013, and 2016 and to Iraq in 2007 in support of overseas operations.
